Really intersting the GEM Study about the reasons why Germany is not an country with entrepreneurial spirit.

I-tunes U

Tomorrow I will attend at a session from Apple on Itunes U. After the implementation for example in Germany (LMU Munich or Freiburg) Spain and other countries will also start this initiative. I saw some articles on this new phenomena also on offline press:

I think the answer is as always: It depends…. on the target group, the content, the situations….. Meanwhile I enjoy my train-rides learning on the Ipod new cooking recipes…that´s mobile learning and coming home I am always hungry as hell

E-learning experience- deutsch

Mein letztes “formelles Lernen” war ein 18 monatiges postgraduelles Studium, komplett online. [Disclaimer: ich arbeite bei dem Verein ]
Ein Paper über die Fallmethode (Case Method) und wie das online vollzogen wird findet sich in diesem Sammelband des SCIL in St.Gallen.

Die Diskussionen in Foren sind viel intensiver als im Klassenzimmer, man muss jedes Wort umdrehen und lernt zu argumentieren. Die Fallmethode ist dabei sehr kommunikativ, partizipativ, da man ja alles erst alleine und dann im (virtuellen) Team besprechen muss. Danach geht´s in den Klassenverbund. Ob man dabei wirklich Handlungskompetenz lernt, ist eine recht interesante Frage. (dazu haben sich aber schon viel Schlauere und vor allem Erfolgreichere Gedanken gemacht. Hier zum Beispiel.) Ich habe zumindest das Gefühl eine ganze Menge gelernt zu haben. Nebenbei habe ich auch eine viel dezidiertere Meinung zum Thema Entrepreneurship und deren Wichtigkeit im gesellschaftlichem Gesamtzusammenhang.

Da wir auch einen Nachmittag in der Woche synchrone Videokonferenzen hatten, hab ich auch eine ganze Menge über virtuelles Arbeiten mitbekommen. Wenn ich heute so manche Videokonferenz im Web als Zuhörer betrachte, dann habe ich mit meinen mehr als 200 Stunden Online Klassen doch genügend Erfahrungen um auch schwierige Momente zu meistern. Damit habe ich zumindets auch an „Selbstreflektion“ gewonnen.

Wichtig bei der ganzen Diskussion um das neue “Lernen” finde ich v.a., dass es zu wenige E-Learning Entwickler gibt, die selbst ein “formelles” online Studium absolviert haben. Formell wird ja heute fast gleichgesetzt mit „altes Paradigma“ etc. Ob das Ganze nun Lernen 1.0 oder 2.0 oder 1.345 ist lasse ich mal dahingestellt. Und so komme ich auch gleich zum zweiten Teil der Antwort:

Informelles Lernen: seit etwa 3 Jahren bin ich Verfolger der Blogszene und lerne deswegen v.a.táglich über mein Netvibes, als Portal zur Blogwelt dort draussen.Dies sieht ein wenig nach Kraut und Rüben aus und ich sammle wie verrückt feeds zum thema e-learning. Seit diesem Jahr versuche ich jetzt selbst ein paar Gedanken in diesem Blog zusammenzutragen, um diese eigene Erfahrung zu machen (und aus rein pragmatischen Gründen: um diese unendliche Mittagspause in Spanien sinnvoll zu verbringen) Daneben habe ich mich aus reiner Neugier ein Twitter Konto erstellt und bin sehr überrascht von der Power dieses Tools. Das ganze ist aber eher ein Experiment mit offenem Ausgang, jedoch kann ich heute schon sagen, dass es eine schier unerschöpfliche Quelle an Links, Inspirationen etc. ist. Einziger Nachteil: manchmal weiss ich nicht ob auch hier die Selbstreferenzialität nicht überhand nimmt. Eine weitere (kuriose) Quelle des informellen Lernens: ich forste von Zeit zu Zeit Stellenangebote zum Thema E-learning durch. Man lernt eine Menge über Sektor, Firmen, Profile etc. nur zu empfehlen

The students love this approach. We hope outside IE people also. By the way IE University is preparing to join the OCW consortium via Universia in Spain.

Google docs- gadgets

Just playing around with google docs and the gadgets. The application realy rocks to visualize data in a quick and very hands on way.

I am following  gapminder some years now, before they were bought by google and now it´s reality to play around with your own data. really huge!! On the picture,  some data I have aggregated on spanish law firms from Expansion for a new case we are preparing.

Still have not found the possibility to put the funcionality on the blog…

Timeline development and mashups

No it´s not about the timeline of all tweets and your lifestream. Also I am starting to dip into this “huge ocean” of twitter I want to talk about web development for our applications. In our material we use timeline visualisation in (strategy) case studies. For the soccer fans FC Barcelona and their strategic changes in 2003/2004. There are a lot of different uses of timelines. The last one I saw is much more automatic and not a hermetic closed web page you code once: Could this be the worldwide newspaper? All newsfeeds mashed up on a map. Navigating on time and space? Interesting approach for changing data.

Manager and informal learning

Great “case study” on how managers learn.

What I like and share, is the idea, that (successful) managers are great networkers, before this term really existed. Technology based social networks are just the electronically enhancement of the networks or are superior to this. My few days twitter and blog experience show me that there is a different network approach, although I am not a born networker at all. Business schools have to think about how to teach in this challenging times…

Challenging future

The Higher Education sector is passing challenging times. Today I read in the NYT about the University of People, an entrepreneurial project of Israeli entrepreneur Shai Reshef. Open Source philosophy fitting together with a university project, all online- really surprising and “thinking out of the box”. This could be one of the initiatives to “formalize” informal learning initiatives. The educational institutions have to think about their “business-learning- models”. Business and learning are muche closer than ever thought. And this does not mean that having a business model means that education is an elitist approach only for someone paying 100.000$ for a degree. Think about the long tail, the bottom of the pyramid and all these disruptive business theories…Wow, a whole new world behind it. The new key word could be “entrepreneurial learning” as mentioned at Knowledge Entrepreneur.
